My Weight Loss Progress
I have had some interesting experiences since giving the whole
weight loss thing over to the Lord.
A few days ago, I said to a friend (in frustration), "The
problem is, I just love food!!!" We were on our way home
from a movie at the time. I dropped her off at her house and
headed home. As I drove, I continued the conversation with the
Lord.
I said, "I can't believe You are asking me to give up
the best thing in my life!!!" Now, I know Jesus is the
best thing in my life, but I meant my natural life -- the things
I can touch, see and feel.
At that moment, the Lord spoke to me. "That is not true,"
He said. "It WAS true. When you
were a child, you were lonely, you had no kids in your neighborhood
to play with and your parents were working too hard to give
you the love and attention you needed. But look at your life
now!"
He reminded me of all the wonderful friends He has given me
and the loving and caring family I have in the body of Christ.
I realized that food really wasn't the best thing in my life
anymore, and the temptation to overeat lessened that night.
A few days earlier, I had been reading a teaching sheet a good
friend of mine had written on how to overcome addiction. In
it, she shared that one of the most important steps to overcoming
addiction is to spend more time with the Lord. When I read it,
that hit me as being true and I determined to do just that.
At the time, I was thinking I needed to spend more time reading
the Bible, praising God and praying for myself and others. Now,
I think it's likely to be a few more wresting matches like the
one I just described.
