Ask the Experts
Today I’m off to my physician to have my thyroid checked.
She had mentioned at my last appointment that if I had trouble
losing weight, the medication I take for a low thyroid might
need to be adjusted.
I think one of the things the Lord is trying to teach me in
my quest for fitness is that He made us to need each other.
We all have gifts and talents to offer others and life is best
when we allow others to be used by God to help us.
There is a wonderful young man at the local YMCA that has been
a tremendous help to me. I’m very impressed by this young
man’s understanding of muscle groups and the proper way
to exercise. He hopes to be a doctor some day and I think he’ll
make an excellent one.
I was working on a machine that was causing me pain in my right
knee. He worked with me for over half an hour until he got the
settings exactly right. Now I can do that exercise with no pain.
I know not all YMCA’s are alike and I’m blessed
to live near a particularly good one. It is geared to families
and has the most positive atmosphere! I can always find help
there when I’m not sure what to do next in my fitness
program.
Last night I tried out the rowing machine after reading some
advice online about mixing up cardio exercise to keep it interesting.
Now I have three machines – the treadmill, the elliptical
machine and the rowing machine to keep me from getting bored.
I’m sure you’re familiar with the saying, “It
takes a village.” This refers to raising children, but
I think it applies to weight loss as well.
I’ve started logging everything I eat and plan on taking
that information to a nutritionist. I have a tendency to want
to figure everything out for myself, but I think it’s
time to stop trying to “re-invent the wheel” and
simply ask the experts.
I hope your week is going well. Log
on to tell us how you’re doing.
