Sweet Scale Success
Well, the scales finally moved this morning and I’m down
a total of 7 pounds. Yahoo!
When I went to my doctor last week, I asked her about the “carb”
debate. She said she had recently read a long term study comparing
low-carb diets to low-fat diets. The results were that both
diets were equally effective. But she said low-carb diets were
much harder to stick to. She suggested that I just choose better
carbohydrates with whole grains.
I took her advice and went to a local bakery that makes wonderful
whole grain breads. One of the breads is called, “Bible
Bread” and has an amazing 6 grams of fiber in each slice.
In addition to being healthy, it tastes great and is very satisfying.
It’s now a regular part of my diet.
One of the reasons I’m so motivated to lose weight and
get healthy is that my doctor diagnosed me as being pre-diabetic
a few years ago. My mother lost her sight to Type 2 diabetes,
a cousin of mine also lost his vision and another cousin had
to have her legs amputated as a result of the disease. So this
is a diagnosis I do not take lightly.
Although I’m not diabetic yet (and hope to never be),
I test my blood sugar once a week as a precaution. I was very
excited to see a more than 10 point drop in my sugar level this
week as a result of the additional fiber in my diet.
That, plus the two pound drop on the scales this morning has
me shouting, “Hallelujah.”
