Why One Pastor Says
Weight Loss is not a Prayer Away
On Monday, I mentioned that I was looking forward to watching
Pastor
David Ireland on The 700 Club today.
I wasn't disappointed.
Dr. Ireland echoed my personal sentiments about weight loss
when he said, "It is not a prayer away." What
he means by that is, it is not a simple quick fix. Losing weight
takes time, effort, discipline, and perseverance.
I'm afraid I was lacking in all of those this week because
this is my birthday week.
Yes, I know a birthday is just supposed to be one day. But
I tend to turn it into a celebration that lasts at least a week,
sometimes longer if I have friends who are out of town. We just
celebrate when they return.
I probably don't have to tell you that birthdays are not the
best thing for my weight loss efforts. After all, it's a celebration,
and celebrations always involve food. Although I must say I'm
trying hard to re-think that idea.
When I had something to celebrate a few weeks ago, I decided
to buy myself some fresh cut flowers to celebrate instead of
indulging in a feast.
For me, weight loss involves the agonizingly slow process of
changing habits and changing how I think about food.
Dr. Ireland had a lot to say about that and his
interview is worth the read. I pray that it blesses you
all as you continue your "fight to be fit."
