The Simple Truth
about Weight Loss
All you have to do is stand in the grocery store checkout line
to realize that we have at our disposal an endless amount of
advice about how to lose weight. Low-carb, no-carb, low-fat,
the right fats, the right carbs -- on and on it goes.
But there is one simple fact about dieting that they rarely
share. That is that dieting is just plain hard!
I once turned on the television to see Oprah Winfrey interviewing
the legendary singer, Aretha Franklin. This amazing woman had
made it to the top of the highly competitive and stressful recording
industry. However, when Oprah asked her what the hardest thing
she had ever done in her life was, she answered, “Lose
weight!”
We are surrounded by food and temptation all the time. So the
moment you decided to begin a weight loss plan you have put
yourself at odds with our fast-food, supersize culture. Add
to that, a Christian culture where fellowship almost always
involves food and basically you have a challenge similar to
climbing a mountain backwards in stiletto heels.
Nevertheless, with God, all things are possible and I have
proof of that. A dear friend of mine sat through her Sunday
School class yesterday as they passed fresh glazed donuts back
and forth, right in front of her nose. She didn’t take
a one, although she was terribly tempted. Personally, I think
she deserves a purple heart!
Needless to say, today’s blog is basically a confession
that last week didn’t go all that well. Still, miraculously,
I’m maintaining my weight loss. I suppose that’s
better than gaining.
Now I’m back on the wagon and praying that the Lord will
bless all of our efforts this week. Be sure to sign on to the
message
board or e-mail
me to share how you are doing.
