I never cease to be amazed at the emotions that drive me to
the refrigerator.
What is it about anger that makes me think food will make it
go away? It doesn't and in the end I'm just angrier than I was
in the first place because now I'm also angry with myself!
I remember a friend telling me years ago that her counselor
had advised her not to diet. His reason was that she tended
to eat over every emotion. If she were to stop, she would be
overwhelmed.
Unusual advice.
The Lord does provide healthy way for us to deal with our emotions.
In fact, He provides everything we need in life. It's when I
seek a solution apart from Him that I run into trouble.
My solutions always come at a price - a price too high for
the help they give and in this case the price is my health and
my waistline.
Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28, NIV. His comfort,
for whatever emotion I'm struggling with, is perfect and comes
without a cost
Why do I have such a hard time remembering that?
