Daily Devotion - New Year
To say "I won't be content until this happens" means God is not enough for us now. And if God is not enough now, it means we'll be striving to accomplish that resolution by our own strength.
The New Year is almost here. It stretches before us like a blank piece of a white paper. What we decide to do with the year is, in part, up to us. Consider setting some realistic goals.
In the New Year, I want to press toward the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus, not looking back to what I did not get done. There is no life in the sea of regrets and hurts.
We don't start over; but we begin again right where we are, making things better in our lives. Do you want a new ending this year?
There is another way to approach the start of a New Year: Pray for God to lead you in a “New Year’s Renewal.”
As I do each year, when the New Year rolled around, I looked to see what would be said in the Christian world about the New Year. What I found was troubling.
When we wait on God’s timing, then take deliberate action, the outcome is likely to be refreshment and contentment. “The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; your love O Lord, endures forever” says Psalm 138:8.
There is nothing wrong with accomplishing some short term goals, but never let them consume your entire energy by making them so hard they are beyond your reach. Simply trust God to help you each step of the way! Get a fresh start each year, but plan for a wise one too.
“Auld Lang Syne” is a 17th century Scottish song written by a man named Robert Byrns. His transcription of the words “auld lang syne” means “times gone by.” So when we sing this song, we are saying, “We’ll drink a cup of kindness yet for the times gone by.”
Resting sounded like a wonderful thing to do. But since we should be preparing for the end-times, I didn’t understand how we had the time to spare by doing nothing. Then the Lord spoke to my heart this acronym: Restoration of Everything Satan Took
It is true that man has a plan, but God orders our steps. I did away with my list long ago, except that I try to work on the Scripture verse that says, 'I must decrease so that He will increase in my life' (John 3:30).
Why don’t we all make it our goal this New Year, to strive to cross the finish line and take home that glorious prize, that is even now … set before us? What better way to bring in the New Year than to set our sites heavenward?
