CBN.comSTEPPING INTO THE SPOTLIGHT
Britt Koth is the sweet and naïve star of MTV’s reality show, 8th & Ocean.  She stepped out of the Midwest and into the spotlight as the show followed her and other models as they pursued their ambitions in Miami.  The 20-year-old from Kansas City, Missouri is living out her biggest dream and doesn’t take it for granted.

At 16, Britt’s mom entered her in a Kansas City modeling contest.  From that initial exposure she was signed by a local agency and once Britt exhausted all opportunities in the mid-west, she relocated and signed with the well-respected Irene Marie Management Group, in Miami Beach, Florida.

Soon after signing with Irene Marie, Britt was offered the opportunity to appear on MTV’s newest reality series, 8th & Ocean.  Britt’s All-American beauty, paired with her down to earth attitude, made her an instant star.

Britt has modeled for a variety of national magazines including: Seventeen, Teen Vogue, Teen People, Ocean Drive, and on the cover of Justine Magazine. She has also appeared in advertisements for Buckle, Roxy Swimwear, Venus Swimwear, Revolve Clothing, Delia’s, Quicksilver and a national commercial for Chevrolet.

A FIRM FOUNDATION
Britt’s personality on the show was largely influenced by her unique upbringing. The daughter of a former pastor, Britt was raised in a very conservative home. She  was home-schooled in Winona, Minnesota and at age 13 moved to Kansas City, where she initially attended a private Christian school, but eventually returned to home schooling.  When Britt moved to Miami, she moved out of her sheltered world into the often wild world of the modeling industry.  She says it was difficult because she was traveling a lot and didn’t have the support system of her family and her home church to fall back on. Not to mention that she was a Christian working in a non-Christian environment where she says she constantly had to defend the decisions she made and her morals.

Although Britt took another model with her to a Models’ for Christ meeting in an early episode, where she openly expressed her love for Jesus, Britt’s stint on the show wasn’t all smooth sailing.  Other models taught her how to dance so she could go out with them to the nightclubs.  She developed an interest in a fellow model and castmate, Teddy, whose morals were not at the same level as her own.  She also faced trials during photo shoots.  She was concerned about erotic poses and wearing clothes that would reveal more than she felt comfortable showing.  While it would have been easier to just let down her guard and “fit in,” Britt continued to stand firm in her Christian beliefs throughout the entire series.  “Everyone in the house knew I was a Christian and were always watching me,” Britt says.  “One thing that is really important to me is to not only speak with my words, but with my actions.”  She was conscious that the choices she made and how she acted should reflect her beliefs.

FOSTERING HOPE
Britt wants to use her position and her income to make a difference and she has chosen a cause close to her heart.   Britt has three brothers, five sisters and one foster brother.  Two of her sisters are biological, the rest are adopted.  This aspect of her childhood has given her a strong desire to continue her family’s involvement helping less fortunate children. Britt is giving a portion of the money she earns as a model to the foster care system in Kansas City, and hopes to one day start her own children’s home.
