– In December of 2008, the Commission on Holy Spirit Empowerment in the 21st Century was formed bringing together Christian scholars, church leaders and next generation participants to converse about the current manifestations of the Holy Spirit throughout the world’s cultures, church denominations and generations.
Empowered 21 is an intergenerational congress joining individuals from all around the world that will be held on April 8th-10th, 2010, at the Oral Roberts University campus. It will include over 200 learning sessions, 24/7 intercessory prayer, practical outreach experiences, spiritual heritage tours, luncheon events, scholarly presentations, international dialogue, intimate worship coordinated by Integrity Music/Media, ministry from a variety of spirit-empowered speakers and life-changing General Sessions.
They will be addressing such important questions as: In what ways can the Holy Spirit be seen moving in your part of the world today? What are the challenges and opportunities the church faces today and how should we be responding as Spirit-empowered believers? How can we effectively communicate and pass on the torch to the next generation of Spirit-filled believers?
While acknowledging the historic roots of the Spirit-filled movement, this conference will not be so much about the past, but rather about focusing on the future. The hope is the attendees will experience and discover the purity, passion and purpose of Spirit-empowered living. Conference organizers believe that God is going to bring a supernatural convergence in Tulsa as the streams of the Spirit-filled movement unite to focus believers’ hearts and minds on the future. Some of the participants include: Jack Hayford, Dick Eastman, Jentezen Franklin, Ron Luce, Lou Engle, Tommy Barnett and Billy Wilson.
SPIRITUAL CONVERGENCE
The Rev. Billy Wilson says twe need to keep in mind some important points as the Church faces the 21st century: Authentic transparency by leaders is needed. Leaders need to repent for failing in this area. There needs to be an emphasis on the teaching of the Holy Spirit. We need to raise up a generation that is biblically literate. The upcoming generation has a deep need for spiritual fathers and mothers to walk along side them as in Malachi 4.
The Rev. Wilson believes that this congress is taking place at God’s appointed time. The conference was scheduled unintentionally during the time of the 104th anniversary of the Azusa Street Revival and the 50th anniversary of the Charismatic Renewal Revival. With the recent deaths of spiritual patriarchs including Oral Roberts, Rev. Wilson sees this as a spiritual convergence. He believes this is not just a meeting, but a process. He also encourages people to pray for the attendees of the conference and says spiritual mothers and fathers should invite their spiritual children.
