Hyland Heights and 'The Living Cross'

– Thousands of visitors from all over the country have seen The Living Cross, a musical drama presenting the Easter story.
David Dalton is the minister of music at Hyland Heights. He says, "The purpose of The Living Cross is to see people come to know Christ. It’s one of those stories that never changes. It’s great to see the whole story unfold before our eyes -- the birth, right up through the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus.
Two hundred to 250 volunteers work hundreds of hours to bring the gospel story to life. Around 7,500 people come to the small town of Rustburg, Virginia, each year to see the production.
Senior Pastor Carl Weiser shares, "It’s an event for the whole community. They always ask, ‘Where do you get your actors from?’ We say, ‘They’re just our people’.
The talented people of Hyland Heights enjoy doing their part.
"I thrill in this," Mary shares. "It’s a wonderful journey through the heart to tell the story of Jesus. It is a tremendous experience."
Gary concurs, "I want to see it touch people the way that it touched me for the first time and bring people to the Lord, as it did me. I had grown away from the Lord for some time, and after the first one I saw, it brought me back to church and brought me back to the Lord."
"That’s what it’s all about," Pastor Carl says, "reaching people, touching lives, and making Christ real in the community."
For their creative use of drama and music, The 700 Club salutes Hyland Heights Baptist Church of Rustburg, Virginia – “America’s Church of the Week.”
