September 11, 2001
Dick says the tragedy of Tuesday, Sept.11, is rearranging everyone's priorities. Hebrews says everything that can be shaken, will be shaken.
It stopped Wall Street, which speaks to our materialism. It stopped the introduction of Hollywood's new TV season. It stopped all sporting events which sociologists call our "secular religion." The only thing that won't be shaken is the Rock, Christ Jesus.
Dick says this has been a golden opportunity for the Church to evangelize. There has certainly been more talk of God in the public arena, and the atheists have been very quiet.
He feels the Church was moving in the right direction with much intercession for revival having occurred in the last few years, but it wasn't really ready for the horrendous events of the day. But he says it can be the start of some good things with spiritual emphasis. "God Bless America" will continue to be in public places.
Genesis 50:20 says, "What Satan planned for evil, God meant for good" and Dick is looking towards an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Revival always comes before and at the time of crisis.
There were 30 feudal wars going on when Martin Luther wrote his 95 Theses. Jonathan Edwards preached before the American Revolution. John Wesley preached at the time of the French Revolution. Before the American Civil War there was revival on Wall Street. The Pentecostal movement started in the years before Wold War I.
Dick says there is a definite parallel between world conditions and revival. God uses civic instability for spiritual results. God is shaking the lethargy from the Christians. He is moving us from our comfort zone to the combat zone.
Prophecy As A Vital Ministry
The 21st century church is experiencing a reformation of the 1st century ministry of apostles and prophets because of the worldwide emphasis on New Age, occultic and psychic phenomena. Unlike the teacher, who prepares his material, the prophet, anointed to proclaim the Lord's message, speaks by spontaneous and supernatural inspiration.
Dick says the New Testament prophet speaks the truth in love that cheers up, builds up or fires up. He can lovingly reprove, correct, and instruct when needed and must be centered in Scripture and speak only what harmonizes with God's written word. All prophetic ministries need to be part of a local church and deal with integrity, honesty, account ability and relationship.
The Fulfillment Of Prophecy
Dick says many of the words he gives to people are conditional. It is really God telling the person what He would like to do. Oftenimes, God will not tell everything He has in mind ahead of time. If you get a word, and you think it is "too far out," don't dismiss it, but put it on the back burner. Each promise has the seeds of its own fulfillment. Job 22:28, "Thou shall decree a thing, and it shall be established."
Years ago Dick prophesied to Jack Hayford that he saw the Hayfords in a house surrounded by a dozen pine trees, a stream, and a mountain covered in snow. Jack's reaction was that he didn't want to drive two hours to the Lake Arrowhead area. Twelve years later, property that fit Dick's prophecy opened up for the Hayfords only 45 minutes from their ministry.
People have told Dick that sometimes the only thing that has kept them going through years of fiery trials is to hold on to the prophecy that came through him. Dick says in this ATM world, between the promise and the performance, is the problem of waiting on God.
