El Rey Jesus de Broward Church: For the Children of Columbia

– Guerrilla warfare has stripped away everything from countless children living in Colombia. Many have lost their parents, forcing them to survive on their own. These children’s desperate situations are almost too much to bear for missionaries like Geraldo Chilenitt.
Geraldo says, “They are totally abandoned and in need of much love. There is a lot of disease and lack of food.”
But God has not forgotten these children. He stirred the hearts of El Rey Jesus de Broward Church in Miramar, Florida. Pastor Jose Zapico and his 650 members came together for one purpose.
“God has placed a huge missionary burden on all of the church,” Pastor Jose says.
Members of the congregation and other volunteers have joined together for mission trips to Colombia throughout the year.
Pastor Jose says, “Today, in Cofre, we feed more than 1,000 children. We are not only giving these children food, but also medical attention.”
The pastor’s wife, Lydia, says, “We also have volunteers who cut hair, clean teeth, and give vaccinations. So, by the end of the day, the participants are very happy.”
Once their immediate needs are taken care of, El Rey Jesus de Broward Church gives them what they need to make it on their own.
“These children are going to receive teachings so that they can develop a future, so they can learn a trade,” says Lydia.
The greatest teaching and the most hope comes into each child’s heart when they learn about Jesus Christ.
Lydia says, “The children then take the gospel to their fathers. They are the ones carrying the gospel.”
By the end of one outreach nearly 500 people gave their lives to Christ. It doesn’t end there. The adults can learn more about their newfound faith by attending Wednesday night Bible studies. For the children, there’s a day camp held every Saturday.
Geraldo Chilenitt now coordinates this whole outreach to Colombia.
He says, “Thanks to God, they can count on a church that has goals that are evangelistic, that has love and passion for souls,”
