CBN.com “Saddle up and ride.” It’s known as the cowboy way, and it’s also how one church is reaching the unsaved.
Thousand Hills Cowboy Church in Kerrville, Texas, has given church a whole new meaning. Each week they meet here in a barn for Sunday morning services. Pastor Ron Moore delivers a message with his dog right by his side. There’s also “Kids Korral” for the little buckaroos.
Throughout the week they have a variety of activities including bull riding, team roping, cutting and penning. All of these events draw a crowd, but the focus is for the men.
Pastor Ron Moore says, “It seems like Christian ministry misses the older people my age. Cowboy Church on Sunday mornings is particularly geared to people my age, mainly men. That’s why we decorated this barn for Sunday services to fit a man.”
On Monday night they offer a service called “Bibles and Bulls” where they teach for about 15 minutes and then they have bull riding in their arena. This is always a crowd pleaser.
These events have allowed the church to connect with men who might not ordinarily step foot in a traditional church building.
Cowboy Church member Marty Brown says, “You’ll see somebody you don’t know, and he looks real uncomfortable. He’ll kinda be standing in the back watching a bit. A week or two later you’ll see him again, and he’s getting a little closer. He’ll stay a little bit longer. Then before you know it, he’s sitting up in the seats, and he has his wife and family with him.”
Wayne Saur, another member, agrees, “This church got me back on track and in turn encouraged me to go out and tell other people about Christ.”
For reaching outside the church walls to connect with people the cowboy way, The 700 Club salutes you, Thousand Hills Cowboy Church in Kerrville, Texas.
A caring friend will be there to pray with you in your time of need.
