When Your Financial Future Seems Impossible

Stacy Hord remembers the day she got the inheritance check after her father passed away. She also remembers his request: that his beneficiaries tithe off of their inheritance. It was tough decision for Stacy – a single mother of three boys. 

"There were a lot of things I could have done with that money. My mind was just rattling. There were so many debts I could pay off."

In faith, Stacy gave ten percent of the money to her church. Tithing 10 percent of her income was a foreign concept to Stacy.

"I do remember getting the kids ready for church and rooting through my purse to find any loose change or dollars that they might be able to take to church. The Lord was speaking to me about stepping out in faith, and I kind of knew as a single mother I wasn’t going to make it on my own unless I had some supernatural help."

At the time, Stacy was working as a real estate loan officer working on commission only.  The business was feast or famine, but even in the lean times, Stacy tithed, and she says God provided for her family.

"I remember when I couldn’t keep milk in our refrigerator. I couldn’t tell my boys it wasn’t because I couldn’t afford it. I just kept saying I forgot. I had someone come up and give me a credit card and say, 'Go buy everything you need for groceries for at least the next month.' What a blessing.'

Two years later, Stacy went through two seven-month periods of unemployment. She vowed to trust God to provide for her. 

"The Lord just had to grab hold of me and set this trust in my heart. He knew what He was going to do and it was going to take some steps of faith on my part. If I would do my part, He would do His part."

Stacy knew her part was to tithe faithfully even off of her unemployment checks!

"I took it right off the top. I lived off of so much less than what we had before but even then God started using the body of Christ to step in and help me."

Then came the moment when she had to prove she really trusted God. "My mortgage payment was due, and I had just received an unemployment check. [I] needed to tithe off of it, but if I did, that meant I wouldn’t’ be able to make my mortgage payment. I just crumbled. I didn’t want to fail the Lord. He brought me too far. I did write that tithe check totally believing that the Lord was going to take care of the mortgage."

During the church service someone handed her a check.

"I feel this tug during the service on my arm, and she takes a check. She just kind of slides it over to me, and it’s going to pay my mortgage."

Today, Stacy has worked the past two years at a property management company.

"I have significantly reduced my debt. I have paid it down greatly by thousands of dollars.  I’m not ruled by it anymore."

Stacy has taught her sons the importance of giving to God. In fact, her oldest son Dallas was recently drafted by a minor league team for the Florida Marlins. He received a large signing bonus that he tithed off of.

"God has been faithful to me and now He’s going to be faithful to my boys.  What more could a mother ask for?  What great blessing is there?"
