OUTREACH
A
Brother's Love

In China, many parents
sacrifice to put their children through school. So what would cause a bright teenager
to leave his studies knowing that he was compromising his future? The love
of his little sister.
Soon's
heart broke as he comforted his youngest sister. She had been seriously injured
in a traffic accident and his family had no money left to pay for her surgery.
"To me nothing is as wonderful as my sister," says Soon. "She is
very smart, loving, and has a sweet smile. When I found out that my sister was
in a terrible accident, I didnt know what to do. Growing up, Soons familys
farm suffered from years of drought. The only work their father could find kept
him away from home for up to a year at a time. "We havent had a harvest
for the past five years," says Soons father. "There are five people
living here, without any income. The only way I could support my family was to
go to the city and work as a construction worker. I earned two dollars a day." Soons
father barely made enough money to send him to school. Most of
the students lived on campus, but soon he couldnt afford to. So, every day, Soon
made the hour long walk through freezing winds. His only motivation came from
the last words he heard from his father. "I told him dont even think
about leaving school," he remembers. "If you arent educated, it will
be hard for you to find work. You need to study hard. You are our only hope." Soon
quickly moved to the top of his class. His familys future began to look brighter.
Then, one day, while Soons twin sisters were playing outside, tragedy struck.
Soons sister was hit by a truck. The impact crushed her leg. After she
was hospitalized their father went door to door to collect enough money for her
initial surgeries. But it would take another $360 to repair her leg. Soon
decided to go against his fathers wishes and dropped out of school to find work.
"My education is nothing compared to the love I have for my sister,"
explains Soon. "I wanted to go to the city and work, and earn money for my
sisters treatment."
But the money Soon raised hardly made a difference. There seemed
to be no hope.
Until,
one day, CBN China came to his school. They brought gifts of clothes, blankets,
and school supplies for each student. And when the school told them about Soon
and his sister, they knew exactly what to do. Thanks to CBN partners, CBN China
could pay for her operation. Now shes able to walk again!
Not only that,
CBN China also told Soon that they would pay for his tuition, room, and board
until he graduates. "Today CBN is helping my children," says his
father proudly. "I hope one day when they can work, they will be able to
help other poor children." "I appreciate the great help from CBN,"
exclaims Soon. "With their help I
will be able to finish my high school education without worrying about it every
day. I want to help others in the future, I want to bless them." Perhaps
the best news we can report out of this story, because of your kind gifts and
the grace of God, Soons mother, father, aunt, and uncle received the greatest
gift of all the gift of eternal life.
