Every year, Mrs. Yuan took her daughter, Min, on a traditional Tibetan Buddhist trek. First, they’d go to the Lama Temple to pray to idols. Then, they’d climb to the top of a mountain and plant prayer flags.
“We write our prayers on the flags and believe that when the wind blows, it carries our prayers to the gods,” Mrs. Yuan said. “Some people pray for prosperity and good luck. But I always prayed for peace and health for my family, especially for my youngest daughter Min.”
In her early teens, Min started having severe heart trouble. “I woke up with a sharp pain,” Min said, “like an arrow piercing my heart. I didn’t know what was wrong. I couldn’t stand up. I couldn’t breathe and I couldn’t bear the pain.”
Min didn’t tell her parents because she knew they would worry. And she knew they didn’t have enough money for her to go to the doctor. They’re farmers, and make less than $60 a month. So Min endured the pain – until CBN came to her village with a free medical clinic. That’s when her parents learned that Min had a life-threatening heart condition. “If she didn’t get surgery, she wouldn’t live long,” Mrs. Yuan said.
So CBN arranged for Min to have free heart surgery. Doctors repaired the hole in her heart.
“When I woke up from surgery, I didn’t feel any pain in my heart,” Min said. “The first thing I saw was someone from CBN standing beside my bed smiling at me. I knew that I was not alone. I was so grateful that at the most difficult moment of my life, CBN came to help me.
CBN brought relief to Min’s body and spirit! “I asked the girl from CBN where her love came from and why she treated me so kindly,” Min said. “She said it was because Jesus loved me. I had never heard about Jesus before. But when she said that, I felt warm. There was a peace in my heart, and I even saw a beam of light. Then I started reading the Bible. I realized what a perfect God Jesus is.”
It caused Min’s mother to think about what she’d believed all these years, too.
“When I met CBN, I started to wonder why their God worked and my gods didn’t,” Mrs. Yuan said. “Maybe mine wasn’t the real one. So I turned to God – to Jesus. Now, my whole family has received Jesus as Savior.”
“Jesus has given me hope, health and happiness. There is no god that can compare to Him,” Min said.
