Christian Leader of the Month
Chuck Currie
CBN.com From meeting with President Obama at the White House to advocating for homelessness and other social issues, United Church of Christ Minister Chuck Currie is tireless in his calling to spread a message of faith and offer aid to those who require it most in our nation’s communities.
As winter sets in, the homeless are again faced with new hardships and dangers. In November, Rev. Currie delivered the invocation at the opening of the Homeless Families Warming Center in Portland, Ore., where homeless families with children will find a warm, safe place to sleep.
At the end of his prayer, Rev. Currie implored:
“Soon the warm sun and blue skies will be eclipsed again by the reality of a rainy autumn and a cold winter. Let this warming center be a place of light in the darkness, more than just a place to get warm, but a place to find hope.”
Based in Portland, Rev. Currie served as interim minister at Parkrose Community United Church of Christ until 2009, when he and his congregation rededicated themselves to a mission of community outreach. Rev. Currie has a long history of working with non-profits and community groups, and is a former board member of the National Coalition for the Homeless in Washington, D.C.
In addition, he maintains a widely regarded blog , where he enlightens his readers by addressing social inequality and raising awareness of those less fortunate.
