Read To Your Child Every Day

It is so much fun to read to your children! Why not do it every
day?
People wonder why they should read to their children when they
can watch TV and videos or hear stories on cassette. Here are
the reasons why:
When your children listen to you reading them a story, they must
be physically close to you in order to hear you. It is a wonderful
time to cuddle them. They feel safe and secure.
Children love stories. You can laugh together about the funny
things or discuss the scary things that happen in books. Good
books can bring up topics that you have prayerfully asked God
to help you talk about with your children. I have used storybooks
to introduce serious topics to my first and second grade classes.
When one child in my class became seriously ill, a storybook opened
the door for me to discuss it with my students.
Reading is the key to all academic success. Statistics show that
children who are read to learn to read better than children whose
parents do not read to them.
If you read to your children you are showing them that you think
reading is important. If they think you value reading, they will
be more motivated to become a good reader.
Reading holds the key to success. A computer is a useless tool
unless the user can read. Your child deserves all the help he
or she can get to be a good reader.
If you don't feel you read aloud well, be honest about it. Tell
your children to help you. Little children love to help their
parents, and you can all learn together.
