CBS Heiress Drawing People to Christ through Her Artwork
Kate Paley, heiress of one of the most influential families in the entertainment industry, is utilizing her artistic talents and her family’s media legacy to launch a multi-media company designed to bring the Word of God to life through high-tech CGI animations, Web sites, and digital art.
The company, Word Diamonds (www.worddiamonds.com) features film animations, extraordinary special effects, screensavers, Web sites and other digital art, all designed to “unpack” the Word of God by exploring – both graphically and textually – the many facets, origins, and expressions of words.
As the daughter of television pioneer William S. Paley, founder and chairman of CBS television and radio networks, and considered by many to be father of modern broadcasting and a genius of mass entertainment programming, Kate Paley grew up in the throws of fast-paced, high-profile New York City “socialite” life, far from a personal relationship with God and His Word.
Through a life-transforming experience while visiting missionaries in South Africa, Kate came to know Christ as her Savior, and soon began experiencing insights about the simplicity and beauty of God’s Word, which eventually gave birth to her Word Diamonds art.
“I would take a particular word in Scripture and research the different contexts in which it appears,” states Paley. “Each word has so many different roots and aspects to it, like 'facets' of a diamond. I then began to create Word diagrams, and these continually give creative life to my art.”
Where many investigate the gospel with lengthy books and sermons, Kate’s approach is just the opposite: she examines single words – “truth,” “time,” “faith,” etc. – exploring their simplicity, and portraying their deeper meanings through her artistic expressions.
Through this inspired art, Word Diamonds seek to open up the eyes of the soul to newly experience the Word, as something alive – that has motion, depth, meaning and beauty. “The heart of all this is prayer,” states Paley. “Prayer transforms ordinary words into Word Diamonds.”
