CBN.com - Donna Maggio has put a lot of hard work and money into restoring her 1870’s home in Buffalo, New York.
“What haven’t I done?” said Donna. “Basically, I've replaced the mainline for the plumbing, I’ve replaced windows, and replaced drywall.”
A retired health care worker, Donna rents out two rooms upstairs to help cover expenses. Then in 2008, the economy was struggling and she lost her renters along with thousands of dollars. For years she had a hard time finding reliable tenants.
“Not only did I have vacancies following those tenancies, I was very leery and I was losing thousands more.”
Donna managed but was feeling the strain of lost finances. Then in 2013, Donna was watching The 700 Club. Gordon Robertson was explaining that God’s financial plan for success also included giving.
“I was impressed with the scripture Malachi 3:10,” said Donna. “Everything he said made sense to me. His idea that it’s not according to human finances. 'It’s counter intuitive,' he said. 'It doesn’t seem to make sense but it will.'"
Donna continued, “But here’s Gordon saying, 'it makes money sense. It will happen for you, you have to understand what you send out does come back from God.' I called up CBN that same day and I said I’d like to join. I got out my check book and I thought to myself, 'I’m going to take the plunge.'”
Soon after that Donna’s neighbors found her two good tenants who are still there today. She was so encouraged she increased her giving to CBN.
“I was very happy about water wells for people who don’t have it. So that’s the nearest and dearest thing to my heart. I knew that money was going toward a great cause, and what’s more life-giving than water?”
Donna now has the cash flow to continue the work on her home. She says giving to God first is sound financial advice that she can depend on.
“So to me, tithing is about multiplicity, this idea that from small things, small contribution, so much is accomplished,” said Donna. “It takes patience and a lot of faith but it will all work out.”
Being obedient to God's truth made an incredible difference for Donna. She made herself available for God's love to flow through her to others, and she is reaping a blessing herself as well.
