They were drug addicts, Vice Lords, prostitutes, and gang members.
Now they are a part of Inner City Church of Minneapolis. ICCM is located in
one of the worst neighborhoods, but it's become a haven for these former addicts.
Pastors Chris and Monica Delaurentis aren't your typical pastors -- they
use to be addicts, too -- but now they're taking the streets back by storm.
They don't wait for the people to come to them; they go to the people.
"I was on the streets. I was homeless. That's how I met Pastor,"
says Pamela. "They would come visit me every week in the homeless shelter."
"She [Monica Delaurentis] was talking about Jesus, how He could save
a wretch like me," adds James. "I didn't feel I had any hope for
me. She inspired me that being in all that, there was a chance for me through
Jesus."
Chris and Monica began the church in their home seven years ago. They now
minister to more than 1,000 people every week through their different outreaches.
They've also planted seven churches across the country with the goal of reaching
the urban poor, the addicted, the abused, and the abuser.
I didn't want anyone to know that my mom was a crackhead," says Arsheki
through tears. "I didn't want anyone to know that she wasn't taking care
of us. It seems like for my situation, I could never see a way out. Pastor
Monica taught me if you look at the situation and let them determine your
future, it will never work, so I began not to look at my situation, but to
look at God."
