The ladies at Bethel Lutheran Church in Shoreline, Wash., are
touching lives through their quilting ministry. They piece together and send
their quilts to Lutheran World Relief, which then sends them out to disaster
areas all over the world. Locally, they also help out by sending quilts to the
Crisis Pregnancy Center, the VA Home, and the Battered Women’s Shelter.
"The main focus is to give relief in our world that has some kind of
devastation -- famine, other things that have happened," says Bethel
Lutheran's pastor, Bruce Jenkins.
These ladies usually make about 100 quilts every six months.
Marie Nicolas, director of the ministry, says they usually don’t even
have to buy the materials.
It’s fun to do," she says. "We get materials donated and
they show up at our door. Lutheran Relief provides filler. Materials just
come in. We rarely have to buy any of the materials."
The ladies make the tops of the quilts at home and then they come together
to put it all together. Even though they don’t always get to see the
people that receive their quilts, they know that it’s a blessing to
those in need.
"We’re doers of the Word. We’re helping them," Marie
says.
