CBN.com – American Idol is currently the number one television show in the country. I had never watched it until last night when I walked through my living room and there it was staring back at me. I stopped to look at it for a few minute, and that in turn led me to the thoughts recited below. It’s a self test, and I got nailed on a number of them. See how you do.

All these things should serve us not vice versa. God says, “Learn of Me.”
And here are a few ways we might do that:
My children, keep yourselves safe from false gods!
Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth.
"Mortal man (or woman)," he said, "These men (and women) have given their hearts to idols and are letting idols lead them into sin. Do they think I will give them an answer?
You must put to death, then, the earthly desires at work in you, such as sexual immorality, indecency, lust, evil passions, and greed (for greed is a form of idolatry).
But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and are caught in the trap of many foolish and harmful desires, which pull them down to ruin and destruction. (Good grief, even the Donald?!)
For the love of money is a source of all kinds of evil. Some have been so eager to have it that they have wandered away from the faith and have broken their hearts with many sorrows.
But you, man (or woman) of God, avoid all these things. Strive for righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.
Don't put your trust in violence; don't hope to gain anything by robbery; even if your riches increase, don't depend on them.
What you get from me is better than the finest gold, better than the purest silver.
For your heart will always be where your riches are.
But the LORD said, “They look at the outward appearance, but I look at the heart."
