Bishop Ezra Sargunam’s passion is to see the Gospel preached to every people group in India. He told me there are some 3,500 different people groups in India, and what separates them from each other is language.
A recent conference in Chennai, India, brought together Christians from some 300 of these ‘tribal peoples.’ Bishop Ezra said it was a preview of the scene found in the Bible, from the book of Revelations 7: 9-10:
After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands.
They cried out in a loud voice: ‘Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne, and from the Lamb.’ (NAB)
This is the vision that drives Bishop Ezra to evangelize the ‘tribes’ of India. And he says that right now there is great opportunity as many tribes are responding to the message of Christ in massive numbers.
All he needs are the laborers. He quotes Jesus from the book of Matthew 9:37:
‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into the harvest field.’
Bishop Ezra and other Christian leaders in India are working to identify and train missionaries who are willing to take the Gospel to these harvest fields. And he asks Christians worldwide to pray that thousands of workers will come forth to harvest those who are hungry for the message of Christ.
